Choose a cause.

Some causes are near and dear to a person. If your goal is to be a long-term donor or volunteer of a nonprofit, you must find advocacy that can enable you to address an issue in society. Do you want to address food shortages in far-off places? Are you willing to help fight illiteracy? Would you like to contribute to medical research? Or do you want to spend time building homes with other volunteers? Once you've decided on which cause to support, Paul Favret says you can determine how to share your resources with the organization.

Choose how you will give.

People can share their time, skill, resources, and money with their chosen causes. Philanthropy is more than just donating money to a charity every year. However, this way of getting involved is a place to start. If you want to go beyond financial giving, you can join mission trips, feeding programs, or hospital visits. This will allow you to see how you can impact the organization and the people you have chosen to help.
