Scouts are helpful and some of our activities include service. To the left, we're working on a trail at Oljato. To the right, we planted flags for Memorial Day at Golden Gate Cemetery.
Claire Tappaan hosts Troop 50’s annual ski trip to Sugar Bowl. This is a 3-day, 2-night trip to the Claire Tappaan lodge near Sugar Bowl. While we are at this lodge, our troop enjoys many fun activities such as skiing/snowboarding, and snowball fights.
In addition to skiing and snowboarding at Claire Tappaan Lodge, our troop also enjoys sledding near the lodge...and of course more snowball fights.
During the summer every year our troop attends Camp Oljato, a boy scout camp in the Sierra Nevada mountains. During the morning at Camp Oljato we attend merit badge classes and other constructive scouting classes. After lunch we have free time where we can participate in a large range of fun activities including Archery, Swimming, Rifle Shooting, Shotgun Shooting, Crafts, and Rock climbing. Camp Oljato also features a couple great fishing spots and pristine lakeside scenery.
Camping is awesome. Here are a couple of pictures from our most recent trip to Lassen National Park. We hiked for four days and we had a blast!
Our Troop loves hiking...a lot. Here we are at Desolation Wilderness, where we hiked 7-11 miles per day over 4 days (and we were very lucky to get a permit during the COVID-19 pandemic).
Backpacking puts a lot of scout skills together and some of our biggest challenges have come on our troop's annual 50-mile trip. This picture is from Kings Canyon, which is the site that we have used most recently for the trip.
Every year we take a trip down the South Fork of the American River in the Central Valley. This is one of our highlights of the year, as it is all about having fun.
Every year we sell holiday wreaths in order to gain funds for the year of scouting. This is our only fundraising event, and also is one of our most important events, as the admission of scouting does not cover every camping trip, without this we would not be able to attend most of our events.
We offer courses for troop members to earn merit badges with other scouts. Alternatively, they can work on merit badges one-on-one with a merit badge counselor. To see a list of the merit badges we offer, and the counselors who are in charge of them, click on the "Merit Badge" link in the drop-down menu.
