Let's continue on our journey to learn more about some particular wizarding folk and their Patronuses, shall we?
Weasels are honest, polite, and friendly, social creatures, with a fun, playful side. They are hard working and always willing to help others. They possess a curious nature and a perceptive insight into other people.
Arthur Weasley:
Doesn't his weasel Patronus describe Arthur Weasley perfectly? He seems like one of the friendliest Weasleys in the bunch! He definitely takes his job seriously and willingly works long hours when needed. He's curious about many things, especially items pertaining to Muggles, such as Rubber Ducks and how airplanes stay in the air.
Hermione Granger:
Hermione's Patronus is an otter. Like Harry, while she has some traits in common with her Patronus, I think it more closely represents what she's lacking and deeply desires. Otters are naturally social creatures. They enjoy playfulness, splashing around on rivers and steams. They often sleep holding hands, so they don't drift apart at night. Hermione had a tendency to lose herself in books and in study, but she wanted to have friends and to indulge in her more playful side. She stated this desire when she told Harry in the Sorcerer's Stone that friendship and bravery were more important than books and cleverness. Not that otters aren't clever: sea otters are actually one of the very few animals who can use tools, making them very smart indeed! These otters often carry rocks with them to break shells. Oh, and one more fact about the otter: they are in the same family as the weasel. Hermione's future husband? Ron Weasley! In that sense, her otter Patronus also represents Ron and wanting to be part of his family.
Hares and jackrabbits aren't actually rabbits (a jackrabbit is a type of hare). Hares are larger than rabbits, don't burrow in holes, and do not make good pets, because they are more independent, while jackrabbits are famous for their oversized ears. As Patronus forms, they are similar, and I will be referring to all of them as “hares.” Those with a hare Patronus tend to be very sensitive and attuned to their surroundings. They also usually display their feelings openly and are very direct with their language. Another trait of those with hare Patronuses is that they tend to be a free spirit and don't care about what others think about them or their opinions. They are generally very kind, and they have a happy temperament.
Luna Lovegood:
It isn't at all surprising that Luna Lovegood's Patronus is a hare. Luna was often described as having the ability to see the truth behind the emotions of those around her. She is very direct with her observations and isn't shy about giving her opinions. Harry certainly observed this on more than one occasion!
Nymphadora Tonks:
Tonks originally cast a jackrabbit Patronus. I'm guessing her hare took this form because the jackrabbit is famous for its outstanding ears, while one outstanding characteristic of Tonks is her changeable hair! Tonks could definitely be described as a free spirit and generally very happy, but she never was particularly good with hiding her feelings. Remember when she fell in love with Remus Lupin and he rejected her? Her sadness was hard to miss.
Cat Patronus folk are confident, intelligent and fiercely independent. They can be distant, but very loyal, aloof and yet affectionate. They may have many friends, but they also crave time alone. They tend to be arrogant at times. They are also sticklers for rules and appear quite stern.
Minerva McGonagall:
The Cat Patronus seems perfect for McGonagall! She was undoubtably completely loyal to Dumbledore, but she would not hesitate to challenge him if she believed she was correct. She did have a tendancy towards arrogance, and she was particularly dismissive towards Sybill Trelawney. She definitely was a stickler for rules, such as when she made the under age students evacuate during the Battle of Hogwarts, but she was also fair, and allowed those old enough to remain to make their own decisions whether or not to stay.
Dolores Umbridge:
Dolores also has a cat Patronus; however, while McGonagall's animagus is a more down-to-earth Tabby Cat and the chances are good her Patronus is similar, Dolores Umbridge's takes the form of a Persian Cat. Persians are beautiful, pampered cats, with long, gorgeous fur. Dolores most likely will be less "physical" and "hands-on" than a Tabby Cat person. She would prefer to be surrounded by beauty and luxury. She's definitely a Cat, however. She was often confident to the point of arrogance. She would usually show loyalty to whomever was in power and I can't see her overthrowing the Ministry. Oh, and she definitely loved those decrees!
Kingsley Shacklebolt:
Shacklebolt's Patronus is a Lynx. Lynx Patronus folks often give off an aura of controlled power. They are highly intelligent and are noted for being quiet and very observant. I think it's easy to recognize Shacklebolt's strength and stealth, which are both very useful traits for being an auror. He also strikes me as someone who only spoke when he had something to say.
The phoenix Patronus is cast by those who, when everything looks hopeless, have been given second chances. These folks have died in one sense or another, and then been reborn or regenerated. Their world fell apart, and they rebuilt it from the ashes. These folks are able to sacrifice themselves for those they love.
Albus Dumbledore:
Dumbledore's Patronus being a phoenix is no surprise! Imagine the feelings of devastation and hopelessness he felt when his sister Ariana died, and possibly by his own hands! He has survived many impossible situations and come out on the other side. In the end, when he knew he was dying, he chose to die in the manner in which it would do the most good for the most people. He could have died in a hospital, but chose to sacrifice himself instead.
Goat Patronus folks tend to be fearless and willing to take on any obstacles. Many are very ambitious and climb to great heights. Honor and doing the right thing is very important to them. They value inner harmony.
Aberforth Dumbledore:
Aberforth has a goat as his Patronus, and no wonder! He never backed down from expressing his values. He had no problem letting his brother know he was in the wrong with how he treated Arianna. He showed no fear when confronting Albus, Death Eaters in order to hide Harry Potter when he appeared in Hogsmeade, or Dementors during the Hattle of Hogwarts. Ambitious? He owned the Hogs Head Inn.
Your Patronus is a boar? You're in good company! They tend to be confident, friendly and sociable, very forgiving and seldom holding on to grudges . They work hard to achieve their dreams and goals. They do tend to be a bit pig-headed and stubborn, however.
Ernie Macmillan:
Ernie's boar seems like a good fit for him. He appeared to have lots of friends and was the leader of his own trio. Despite being a pure-blood, he never showed any prejudice. He was a bit stubborn about believing Harry being the "Heir of Slytherin" but once he realized the truth he dropped it and was one of the first to support Harry when the Ministry began its smear campaign against him.
