Our lab studies how interactions between insects and their microbes shape organismal performance, ecological relationships, and responses to environmental change. We are particularly interested in learning more about beneficial microbial symbionts and how variation among these microbes at both the species and strain level influences their insect hosts under stressful or changing environmental conditions.
Our research combines insect ecology, microbiology, molecular biology, and genomic approaches to connect microbial traits with consequences for host fitness and interactions with pathogens.
We investigate how microbial symbionts influence insect development, survival, physiology, and other components of host fitness.
We study how environmental conditions, particularly temperature, alter microbial performance and the benefits that symbionts provide to their hosts.
We examine how beneficial microbes interact with pathogens within insect hosts and whether these interactions influence pathogen persistence and transmission.
