What is Stroke?
There are two main types of stroke, only one of which this module focuses on.
1. Ischemic Stroke - the main focus of this series
2. Hemorrhagic Stroke
Ischemic stroke occurs when the brain does not get enough blood flow to the area which can either be due to an occlusion such as a clot or a narrowing of the artery, called an stenosis. The lack of blood causes brain tissue to die and eventually necrose. ¹
Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a vessel bursts in the brain causing blood to pool and damage surrounding tissue.
