A pre-planned animation system for Patch Odyssey’s user interface, replete with easing functions and layout sequencing.
As a vital system for Patch Odyssey’s gameplay, it is preferable the UI (user interface) presents a strong front on which players can enjoy a smooth experience with.
It’s subtle (as well-designed things often tend to be) but when interfacing with software we don’t usually think much of the layout, performance, style, expressiveness, and so on with the tools we work with. This is because typically function precedes form when things go right.
Animation is one of said forms hidden in plain sight that we don’t notice when interacting with UI elements and they play an important role to augmenting the base of the visuals the user sees. With animation, one can communicate more information visually and also control the user’s even subtler psychological responses when using the software.
So this prototype will feature slight animated easings with its UI components to gauge more visual interest with players and increase the amount of flourish with Patch Odyssey’s presentation.
