Hi, my name is _____ and I am a resident of _____. I am [calling/writing] to urge Governor Hochul to publicly announce her support of the New York Dignity Not Detention Act (S.306 /A.4354), which will prevent governmental entities from contracting with ICE to cage immigrants, while ending current contracts.
One-quarter of our state's residents are immigrants, yet New York goes out of its way to help ICE detain and deport immigrants by allowing ICE to operate an immigration jail system throughout the state, mostly using state facilities. It is well documented that ICE arrests increase in areas with detention centers, so by allowing these immigration jails to operate, New York State is directly enabling and furthering ICE’s cruel practices of family separation and its deportation of vulnerable yet dearly valued members of our communities. DND would end our state’s role in this practice by directly leading to the closure of ICE jails throughout New York.
Thank you.

I urge the Majority Leader to support moving DND out of the Corrections Committee—where the full slate of Democratic Senators supports the bill—so it can become law this session.
Thank you.
