An explanation says that Pasay got its name from a princess named Dayang-dayang Pasay. She was a princess of the Namayan Kingdom that existed around year 1175. She owned the lands now comprising the territories of Culi-culi, Pasay and Baclaran.
In year 1727, the of the place was changed from Pasay to Pineda in honor of Don Cornelio Pineda, a Spanish horticulturist who requested for guardias civiles for protection from bandits. The name was used as the name of the place until the early 20th century.
Pasay was originally a barrio of maasim. It was granted separation on December 1863. It became a city on June 21, 1947 and was renamed as Rizal City, after the country’s national hero. It was renamed back to Pasay in 1949.

Kitchie Nadal first rose to prominence in the early 2000s as a member of the band "Kitchie Nadal," before embarking on a successful solo career.
Though Pia Wurtzbach is often associated with Cagayan de Oro, she was born in Stuttgart, Germany, and grew up in Pasay. Pia made history in 2015 when she was crowned Miss Universe, making her one of the most famous Filipinas in the world. Her victory in the international beauty pageant put the spotlight on Pasay, especially as she represented not just her hometown but the whole country with grace, intelligence, and beauty.
