"Not only did the librarians share their jobs with me, they also shared their career stories with me. I was deeply appreciative of their time; I learned a lot and came away feeling inspired.”
"It was good to hear about how the librarian defined her role as a researcher and became indispensable in the context of a private organization whose focus was not on providing library services.”
Participating in Partners Week
The School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) and the Library and Information Studies Students’ Association (LISSA) would like to invite library and other information professionals to participate in our annual Partners Week events.
Partners Week involves spending time (usually about 1 hour) with a University of Alberta SLIS student. The meetings can be a meetup to discuss key aspects of your job through or allowing a student to “shadow” you as you perform your regular duties. Meetings can also occur through a phone/video conference, if a remote meeting is required or preferred. Because our students can be either on-campus or online cohort, UofA SLIS has students from all over the world!
This year, Partners Week will occur during the weeks of October 27th-31st, 2025 and January 26th-30th, 2026. If you’re interested in joining us, please respond via the following Google Form.
If you choose to participate, you will have the option of selecting a day during the weeks of October 27th-31st, 2025 and January 26th-30th, 2026. This usually entails an hour commitment on your part to share your duties and responsibilities with a student.
The Professional Sign-Up deadline is Monday October 6, 2025.
