Challenge - Design a clever trap for a clever leprechaun!
Students were asked to create a Leprechaun Trap to catch the clever Leprechaun.
This will be an optional project to do at home and share during the next class.
Week #1 = We read a story, discussed trap ideas and drew our design ideas.
Week #2 = This was an at home project. We shared projects over Zoom.

Culture Diversity (Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month)
Literature = "Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon" By: Kat Zhang
Summary = This is a beautiful story of a little girl named Amy Wu. Her teacher asks the students to make their own dragon. She tries but none of her attempts feels quite right. After school, a story from her grandma helps draw new inspiration. With help from her family they make a patchwork dragon.
STEAM Design Challenge = Students were asked to create their own patchwork dragon and engineer a way to make it move and dance.

Literature = "A Different Pond" By: Bao Phi
Summary = The author delivers a powerful, honest and heartfelt glimpse into the relationship between a father and his son AND between cultures old and new. We learn the importance of a simple fishing trip which will not only feed the family but feed the soul. Traveling through stories of Vietnam and modern day provide a sense of walking along with the characters.
STEAM Design Challenge = We discussed the importance of sharing past cultures and traditions within families. In class, we introduced the history of Chinese Tangrams. Students were asked to complete the challenge task cards as well as design their own.
