We are a small and growing Orthodox community established in 2022 in St. Leonards, Sussex. The Parish's current small church, built by the efforts of the parishioners, is a beautiful and fitting place for services, which our community can call home. The church was consecrated by Bishop Irenei in February 2023. We have a resident Priest, Fr. Aleksandr Groves, who lives in the parish house next door, readers, altar servers and a parish choir. During the first three years the community has been growing rapidly and now we are in the process of acquiring a new church buiding.
Some years ago, the establishment of a parish of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia in the region was discussed, and plans were made with the blessing and guidance of His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe (ROCOR). A small church in Pevensey Road was built, decorated and furnished through the generosity and hard work of many people, both locally and from the Cathedral parish in Chiswick. Money was raised and donated, and the young people's group from the Cathedral worked on the building. From the first days of the parish Father Aleksandr was busy not only with the weekly services but also with many baptisms of infants and adults, funerals and other ocasional services. A friendly and active community was growing quickly. Sunday Liturgy always was followed by lunch provided by parishioners. We organised several parish pilgrimages: to Walsingham, St Albans, Oxford (St Frideswide), Folkstone (St Eanswith), Canterbury (St Mildred and St Augastine) and Darmstadt (New Martyrs Grand Duchess Elizabeth and Emptess Alexandra).
