Hi! My name is Alana. I'm a Homeschool Mom of 3 boys and we live just outside of Nashville, TN. How I got here today has everything to do with choosing homeschool for our family, but let's go back...
I was classroom educator for 5 years and I became fascinated with helping students learn to read. I decided to invest in a training I had heard about called Orton-Gillingham.
Holy life changing.
I successfully started my own private tutoring business where I solely helped Dyslexic students learn to read and write. It was through my Orton-Gillingham training that I was able to help so many struggling kiddos.
Fast forward 5 years and we ended up somewhere I never really thought we'd be. We are a homeschool family! My oldest was in Kindergarten at the time and he was ready to read. It was a no brainer what approach I would use to teach him.
Homeschool has shifted my perspective on everything.
It’s specifically shifted my view on what parents need to have successful readers. I have felt a strong pull at my heart to help parents.
Why? Well, teaching my kids to read has been in a word, simple.
I know my story is not the story in every household, though. It got me thinking...
What about the parents that have no idea where to start when it comes to teaching their kids to read?
What about the parents who also didn’t know they’d one day be homeschooling?
What about the parents whose child is slipping through the cracks at school?
What about the parents who are teaching a child that appears to be Dyslexic?
What about the parents who cannot afford to hire a weekly tutor?
What about the parents that can't access education to help their child?
The list goes on and on.
Ultimately, here is my goal.
Make the structured literacy approach we know works accessible to parents. This allows parents to meet their children at home. Parents need education to truly support their children with confidence.
I’ve created my course to be completely parent-centered while also giving you all the tools you would need.
Why hire a tutor, when you can equip and educate yourself?
Are you ready to take the struggle out of teaching your child to read?
Invest in yourself and give your child the gift of literacy.
