On the Night

1. Teams go to their allocated diamonds.  

2. Teams will be coached by both coaches. 

   • Coach 1 will run the warm up and the first drill.

   • Coach 2 will run the second drill.

3. Once both drills have been done, the game will start.

Coaches - if you are on Set Up (as per the draw below), you are responsible for putting out the bases and tee for your Diamond (see layout image below).

Cancellations

Any cancellation decisions will be made by 3:00pm on Friday afternoons.

If you have any questions about cancellations, please contact your coach or club captain.

Brief Background

Wellington Softball Association has developed a new programme for our Under 7 grades.  It is has been designed to:

• keep our kids engaged

• ensure that the kids all get a lot of interaction

• Have every kid a lot more involved in the game.

The basics of the programme is that game day consists of a:

• 30 minute skills session, and

• 30 minute game.

The skills sessions are activities that teach and enhance the skills of our kids so that when it comes to the game that can use the skills they have just learnt.

To further ensure that kids are constantly engaged, the teams will be smaller - with only 6 - 7 players per team.   This ensures that:

• coaches undertaking the skills sessions spend a bit more time working with the kids.

• during games, kids are closer to the diamond and ‘waiting to bat’ times are much shorter.

Obviously this is a very different format to previous years where we created teams and played other clubs each weekend.  We are hoping that this is more interactive for the kids and that they have an more enjoyable experience with softball.
