As stated in the page regarding Gelb's etchings & prints, after the 1940s, Gelb's artwork began focusing more on natural qualities. To contrast her prints, there are a lot more colors used in her paintings, perhaps due to the shift from an environment with lots of artificial lighting (the Atelier 17 studio) to one with a plethora of natural lighting (the dunes on the Peaked Hill Bars of Provincetown, MA). Natural lighting allowed for more colors to be expressed, with her environment constantly changing as a result of being in nature, Gelb incorporated these qualities in her artwork.
