Saturday Afternoon Activity Options

Saturday afternoon will be a choose your own adventure, and include private tours and experiences shared with other Pantsuit Politics listeners.  Below are the details for each tour.    Exact start and end times will be provided prior to the conference, but all activities take place between 12:30pm-4:30pm, after our conference lunch and before the dinner groups start at 5pm.  Except where noted, transportation is not included to the tour locations. 

 

Brewery / Distillery / Cidery  Tours  ($20 additional charge)

Good things come in threes, and this tour is no exception. We’ll take you to a brewery, a distillery, and a cidery for delicious artisan beverages. The Twin Cities’ clean, clear water makes some of the country’s best libations.  This tour is 3 hours and includes pick up and drop off at the Hyatt Centric via private bus transportation.


Gilded Age Mansion Trolley Tour

Remarkable Homes and the Families Who Built Them.   Once upon a time, soaring towers of wealth were built to celebrate success. Minneapolis was born in, and of, this time, and this astonishing trolley tour marvels at these Minneapolis mansions from the outside, and from the inside. If you love looking at the architecture, woodwork and furniture of old mansions, this is the thing to do in Minneapolis for you.  This is a two hour tour and includes pick up and drop off from the Hyatt Centric.


Heart of Minneapolis Walking Tour

We'll walk the length of Nicollet Mall, a showcase of public art that transforms the heart of downtown into an open-air gallery.  On our way to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden we will walk along the Loring Greenway, a scenic pedestrian pathway connecting downtown to Loring Park, one of Minneapolis’ oldest and most beloved green spaces.  We’ll then take the metro to The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, which sits adjacent to the Walker Art Center, spans 11 acres and features over 40 sculptures, many of which are large-scale, contemporary works by renowned artists.  This tour is two and a half hours and begins a half mile from the Hyatt Centric. 


Learn Mahjong with Sarah & the Paducah Mahjong Crew!

New to Mahjong? No problem — no experience necessary! Join Sarah and her Paducah-based mahjong team for a fun, beginner-friendly class.  Our instructor Kijsa Houseman brings years of playing and teaching experience, and the team will be on hand throughout the room to help along the way.  Boards and cards provided — just bring yourself!  This activity takes place at the Hyatt Centric. 


Mill City Museum Visit

Explore where old mingles with new at Mill City Museum, built into the ruins of what was once the world’s largest flour mill.   See 19th-century flour milling machines, view vintage advertising, trace the journey of wheat from farm to market, design your own cereal box, and learn about how wheat milled in Minnesota affected what people eat around the world.   Climb aboard our giant elevator to travel through eight levels of the building and back through time, as you experience the sights and sounds of the workers and machines that made Minneapolis the flour milling capital of the world.  Follow your nose to the Baking Lab for exhibits, demos, and samples of fresh-baked treats. Get out your camera and enjoy the panoramic view from the museum's Koch Rooftop Observation Deck.  This is a self guided group visit that takes around 2 hours.  The museum is 1 mile from the Hyatt Centric.


Minneapolis River Origins History Tour

An easy stroll along the Mississippi through the mill district of Minneapolis to hear how Minneapolis was shaped by river. Hear interesting history as it pertains to the river: the Native Americans, the early settlers, the military, the lumberjacks, the mills, the politicians and the red light districts of old. What neighborhoods came first? What explosive events changed the landscape? This tour is 90 mins and starts about a mile from the hotel.


Paisley Experience – Tour of Paisley Park

Step into the legendary world of Prince at Paisley Park with this guided tour of the main floor of Paisley Park, including studios where Prince recorded, produced, and mixed his biggest hits.  Access the massive soundstage and concert hall where Prince rehearsed and hosted private events.  Visit to the NPG Music Club, famous for Prince’s late-night performances.   No cell phones, cameras, smart glasses and visual or audio recording devices are allowed inside the tour. This tour is 90 minutes and takes place 23 miles from the Hyatt Centric. 


Self-Care Deep Dive with Elisabeth

Slow down and recharge with this guided self-care session, open to all levels. We'll explore:

·        Circling together in community

·        Mindful movement (all abilities welcome)

·        Free writing/drawing practices

·        Guided Yoga Nidra meditation

·        Tune-up ball tutorial

This activity is two hours and takes place at the Hyatt Centric.


Walker Art Center Visit and Tour

Located in the heart of Minneapolis, the Walker Art Center invites you to wander the galleries, watch a film, enjoy a performance, or take a leisurely stroll through the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, home of the iconic Spoonbridge and Cherry.  You’ll enjoy a private tour highlighting two artworks outside in the Sculpture Garden and two artworks inside the Museum.  You will also have time to explore on your own.  The guided tour portion takes one and a half hours and the Center is 1.5 miles from the Hyatt Centric.



Self Guided Activities.  

The activities below do not offer coordinated group tour options, but we are including information should you prefer to visit one of these locations instead of anything listed above, or during another part of your stay.  


Tour the Minnesota State Capital

Take a guided tour for an overview of Capitol history, art, architecture and state government.  Saturday tours take place at 1pm and 2pm.  The state capital is 10 miles from the hotel.  Highlights include:


Visit Minnehaha Falls

Minnehaha Falls is a 53-foot waterfall in Minnehaha Creek, which eventually meets the Mississippi River. Widely beloved for its four-season beauty and centralized location in the urban core of Minneapolis, it’s actually a much bigger park than it initially appears — 167 acres. And if you descend the steps near the falls into the gorge, there are hiking trails that lead to a swimming hole and a sandy beach.   The falls are about 5 miles from the Hyatt Centric and are accessible from public transit or private vehicle.
