Welcome to PantryPal ("PantryPal," "we," "our," or "us"). We respect your privacy and are committed to being transparent about how information is handled when you use the PantryPal mobile application ("App").
This Privacy Policy explains what information PantryPal accesses, how it is processed, where it is stored, and the choices available to you.
By using PantryPal, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
PantryPal allows you to create and manage information such as:
Pantry items and food inventory
Expiry dates
Shopping lists
Meal plans
Leftovers
Recipes
Receipt and fridge photos
Product barcodes
Most of this information is stored locally on your device.
PantryPal may request access to certain device features to provide specific functionality:
Camera: Used to take photos of receipts, fridge contents, and product barcodes.
Notifications: Used to send local expiry reminders and other reminders you choose to enable.
Some PantryPal features use a third-party AI service. AI processing is optional and requires your permission.
AI features remain disabled until you choose to allow them. You can change your preference at any time under Settings → Data & Privacy.
When AI features are enabled:
Receipt and fridge scans: Photos you choose to scan are securely sent to our AI service to identify food items. The resulting food information is returned to your device. We do not store these photos on our servers.
Leftover Rescue and AI Meal Ideas: The names of food items you select, such as "eggs" or "spinach," may be sent to the AI service to generate meal suggestions.
When AI is disabled:
Receipt text recognition is performed on your device using on-device technology.
Fridge-photo scanning and Leftover Rescue are unavailable.
If you enable Share Anonymous Usage in Settings → Data & Privacy, PantryPal collects limited anonymous usage information to help us understand which features are useful and improve the App.
Examples may include:
Feature events, such as "scan completed" or "meal plan created"
App version
Device type
A randomly generated identifier created when the App is first opened
This information does not include your name, email address, photos, pantry contents, location, or advertising identifier. It is not used to track you across apps or websites.
Anonymous usage statistics are retained for no longer than 24 months.
You can turn this setting off at any time under Settings → Data & Privacy → Share Anonymous Usage.
PantryPal does not collect or store:
Your name
Email address
Passwords or account credentials
Location data
Contacts
Microphone recordings
Health information
PantryPal does not use advertising SDKs and does not track you across other apps or websites.
Information processed by PantryPal is used to provide and improve the App's functionality, including:
Displaying your pantry inventory
Managing food expiry dates
Sending expiry reminders
Creating and managing shopping lists
Suggesting meals based on available food
Processing receipt, fridge, and barcode scans
Providing optional AI-powered features
AI requests are processed only to provide the AI feature you have requested.
Anonymous usage statistics, when enabled, are used to understand feature usage and improve PantryPal.
We do not sell your information or use it for targeted advertising.
Your pantry items, expiry dates, meal plans, shopping lists, recipes, and app settings are primarily stored locally on your device.
PantryPal does not provide cloud backup or account synchronization.
When you enable anonymous usage statistics, the limited usage information described above is stored on our server infrastructure using Supabase.
When you use an AI feature, the relevant information is securely transmitted through our server to the third-party AI service required to provide that feature.
We do not intentionally store your submitted photos on our servers.
You can delete locally stored PantryPal data using Settings → Delete All Data.
Uninstalling PantryPal also removes data stored locally by the App, subject to your device's normal operating-system behavior.
Please note that deleting the App does not necessarily delete anonymous usage information that has already been received by our server because that information is designed not to be personally identifiable.
Although we take reasonable measures to protect information, no method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
PantryPal uses selected third-party services to provide specific functionality.
Purpose: Optional AI-powered receipt and fridge scanning and meal suggestions.
When you enable AI features, relevant photos or food names may be sent to Anthropic to process your request.
Purpose: Provides server infrastructure used to process AI requests and store anonymous usage statistics.
Purpose: Manages in-app subscriptions and verifies subscription entitlements.
When you purchase or restore a subscription, RevenueCat may receive an anonymous app-specific user identifier and purchase-related information necessary to verify your entitlement. PantryPal does not intentionally send your name or email address to RevenueCat for this purpose.
Purpose: Provides product information when you scan a product barcode.
The barcode number may be sent to the Open Food Facts public API to retrieve product information such as the product name and category. No personal information is attached to this request.
Open Food Facts Privacy Policy
Purpose: Provides on-device receipt text recognition when AI features are disabled.
Receipt recognition is performed on your device, and PantryPal does not send the receipt image or recognized text to an external server for this functionality.
PantryPal may download required font files from Google servers. This is used to display the App's interface.
PantryPal is not intended for children under the age of 13.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe that a child has provided personal information through PantryPal, please contact us so that we can review and address the situation.
PantryPal gives you control over several aspects of your data.
You can:
View, edit, or delete your pantry information
Enable or disable AI features
Enable or disable anonymous usage statistics
Delete locally stored PantryPal data
Uninstall the App
These controls are available through Settings → Data & Privacy and Settings → Delete All Data, where applicable.
Because PantryPal does not require an account and anonymous usage statistics are designed not to identify you personally, we generally cannot associate anonymous server-side usage data with a particular individual.
PantryPal does not provide cloud backup or account synchronization.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to PantryPal, our data practices, or applicable requirements.
When we make changes, we will update the Last Updated date at the top of this Privacy Policy.
Your continued use of PantryPal after an updated Privacy Policy becomes effective means that you acknowledge the updated policy.
