Who We Are

Pansy Chapel's Roots

The roots of Pansy chapel  date back to 1959, to the little Barkfield School that has stood now for years at the Mennonite Museum in Steinbach. In it, then located ½ mile west of the current church, began a little Sunday School for people who had never had one. A year later, when a bit of persecution led to closing those doors, it also led to the building of our very first version of a church. That humble beginning has seen growth spurts through the years; about every seven years there have  been  additions and improvements made to the building.  Leonard Barkman had a strong vision and passion for Pansy Chapel, always taking leadership in it; the first helpers came from his mother–church, Blumenort; later they came from every direction. Throughout its various stages, through all the ups and downs, commitment to Jesus Christ and serving Him only, has been the keyword, always.

(Special thanks to Betty Barkman for this look back at the roots of Pansy Chapel)

Here are a few key Beliefs that we hold;

We consider the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation as the infallible, authoritative word of God and it is the basis for our teaching.

There is only one God and He alone is worthy of all praise.  He is the Creator and Sustainer of the entire universe. He exists eternally as three distinct persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  These three are co-equal and are one God.

People are the prize of God’s creation, as we are all created in God’s image.  As a result we are all of equal value to Him and ought to treat each other with respect and love.

People are created to live forever and Jesus Christ will be the final judge of where each person will spend eternity.  Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

Sin separates us from God and because nobody is exempt from having sinned, we are intentional about giving opportunity for people to be set free from the bondages of sin.

Jesus Christ is the only way to bridge the gap that sin creates.  Salvation comes through Him and Him alone.

People have been given the opportunity to communicate with God through prayer and as a result, can experience a personal relationship with Jesus Christ!  As a church we continue to be intentional about engaging with God in prayer.

The Holy Spirit; draws us towards a relationship with Jesus, lives in all believers, gives us spiritual gifts, empowers believers to live Godly lives, helps us to comprehend truth, and gives us guidance in our daily lives.

Baptism is an instruction of Jesus for all who choose to follow Him and should be done after a personal confession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and after repentance of our sin.

Marriage is a God-given, God-initiated, and God-ordained institution, which God intended to be a monogamous life long union between one man and one woman.  Marriage is about more than only love and companionship, it is also the God-ordained institution for the stability, love and nurturing necessary for raising children and propagating the human race.  Our beliefs about marriage and sexuality are consistent with the Nashville statement; https://cbmw.org/nashville-statement/#articles.
