Special ISSUE for Detlef

Dear Colleagues,


We are writing to invite you to contribute a paper to Applied Catalysis A: General Special Issue in honor of Professor Detlef W. Bahnemann on the occasion of his 70th Birthday.


Following his retirement as Professor and Head of the Photocatalysis and Nanotechnology Unit at the Institut für Technische Chemie, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover, Germany, at the end of 2021, Detlef W. Bahnemann is now serving as Director of the Laboratory “Photoactive Nanocomposite Materials”, Saint-Petersburg State University, Russia and as Distinguished Professor in the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Shaanxi University of Science & Technology, China. He is an active researcher in the area of photocatalysis and a recognized authority on synthesis, characterization of photocatalysts and environmental and energy photocatalysis. He has edited 5 books, co-authored over 550 journal articles, 45 chapters/reviews, and 18 patents. His works have received over 67000 citations with an h-index of 103 (from Google Scholar).


In honor and recognition of Professor Detlef W. Bahnemann’s outstanding contributions to the field of photocatalysis and on his 70th Birthday, we hope to guest edit a Special Issue of Applied Catalysis A: General devoted to the latest advances in the field and to speculate on future directions.

Chaired with Dr. Zheng Jiang (Soton), The First Symposium on Photo(electro)catalysis (SOP-1) will be held in Beijing, China from June 21-24, 2019.

Ruifeng Qian, Guanda Zhou, Yang Tang and Ting Zhao were recently been admitted by Xi'an Jiaotong University, Imperial College London, University of New South Wales, and University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, respectively. Since 2017, they have worked with Dr. Pan and made significant contributions for our lab during the past two and half years. We greatly appreciate their efforts and contributions. Dr. Pan attended the14th Korea-Japan Symposium on Frontier Photoscience: Photochemistry, Solar Cells, and Photocatalysts at Gwangju City, Korea, and delivered an invited presentation on 26/10/2018. Photo was kindly taken by the organizer, Prof. Wooyul Kim @ Sookmyung Women’s University, Korea. Before the Conference, Dr. Pan visited Prof. Wan In Lee's lab at Inha University, and a lecture about Aeroxide P-25 was delivered on 24/10/2018.

On 02/08/2018, a gathering of academic family tree of Prof. Micheal R. Hoffmann @ Caltech was hosted in Hefei City, China after the successful IPS-22 Conference. In this tree, Prof. Hoffmann, his postdoc, Prof. Detlef W. Bahnemann, and his PhD student, Prof. Wonyong Choi were all plenary speakers of IPS-22. In addition, 9 session chairs/invited/oral speakers were included. Moreover, a Lifetime Contribution Award was presented to Prof. Hoffmann in IPS-22 for his significant contributions in field of photochemistry.

NSFC-RS Joint Project Approved (28/03/2018)

Collaborations with Dr. Zheng Jiang and Prof. Carlos Ponce de Leon Albarran @ University of Southampton are better developed with the newly approved National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) - Royal Society (RS) joint project grant.


On Nov. 23, 2017, Prof. Hyacinthe Randriamahazaka from Université Paris Diderot - Paris 7 visited our lab, and a seminar, From Surface Modification to Electrochemical Devices, was delivered. Thanks.


On 21-24 Sept., 2017, Prof. Dionysios D. Dionysiou stayed with us for 4 days in Beijing. He was so kind to deliver two presentations: Treatment of Cyanotoxins and Contaminants of Emerging Concern in Water Using Advanced Oxidation Processes (University Lecture), and How to Publish Papers in Chemical Engineering Journal. On 20 Jun., 2017, H.X. Zong's thesis working on g-C3N4/TiO2 nanocomposite photocatalysts was awarded "University's Excellent Bachelor Thesis". Congratulations!
