Students wishing to pursue a graduate degree in Health and Kinesiology with a specialization in neurocognitive aspects of Sport and Exercise Psychology are encouraged to complete a short survey here and contact Dr. Kao prior to applying. Such communication will allow for clarification of issues regarding research opportunities, potential for funding, and other issues that the prospective applicant might have questions about. Applications are considered at any time of the year, although funding opportunities may be more limited at certain times.
Students accepted into the graduate program will be given numerous opportunities to be involved in research, teaching, and the writing and presentation of papers. Students completing a doctoral degree will generally have several publications in peer-reviewed journals, have presented numerous papers at national conferences (e.g., American College of Sports Medicine, North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity, Society for Psycophysiological Research), and be prepared to continue as an independent investigator. For more specific information relative to the graduate program in Health and Kinesiology and online application information click here.
Undergraduates in Health and Kinesiology are encouraged to pursue the opportunities available for research in the Physical Activity & Neurocognitive Health Laboratory. Students can receive up to 3 academic credits per semester to satisfy supervised research experience courses. It is desirable for undergraduates to apply for a full one year term under the HK49100/49600 rubric (or similar course in their home department).
Participating in research for undergraduate experience allows students to gain new skills and insight that will further their education and provide needed background for advanced study in graduate school or medical/health professions. Students engage in research activities such as physical activity intervention, participant interaction, data collection, data reduction, and data presentation. Students will also have the opportunity to work closely with graduate students, postdocs, and Dr. Kao. If you are interested, please complete the application here. If you have any question, please email us.
