ROME BY TRAIN

You can get a train from Casa Elsa to Rome downtown, this is the fastest and cheapest way!

Please just read carefully all the below.

Basic train line and station info

-          line name: FL5

-          departing station name: "TORRE IN PIETRA - PALIDORO" (200m walk from Casa Elsa)

-          displayed train direction to Rome: "ROMA TERMINI"

-          Platform number: 1 (opposite side from Casa Elsa, pass under the rail track and take second stairs on the left)

• Maccarese / 5min

• Roma Aurelia / 16min

• Roma San Pietro / 20min / Get down here for San Peter / Vatican city (10min walk)

• Roma Trastevere / 24min / Get down here to visit Trastevere area or city center (bus line 8 or line H)

• Roma Ostiense / 30min / Get down here to connect with Metro Line B

• Roma Tuscolana / 35min / Get down here to connect with Metro Line A

• Roma Termini / 42min / Last stop. This is Rome main train station, connection with both metro line A and B (10min walk) - speed trains to Naples (1h), Florence (1h30m), Bologna (2h), Milan (3h15m), Turin (4h15m), Verona (4h), Venice (4h)

Important notes for your trip to Rome by train:

• The fastest and easiest way to check trains timetable is via mobile apps or official websites:

  • https://www.trenitalia.com/ (official website for Italian rail service)

• Torre in Pietra – Palidoro station has NO personnel and just a small waiting room and a ticket vending machine which are placed on platform 1 (same platform for trains going to Rome).

• In case vending machine is broken you’re still allowed to get on the train but you should head to first coach and ask personnel to purchase ticket on board (fee is typically doubled)

• Ticket price for Rome (one way) is 2,60 EUR for adults and 1,30 EUR for kids between 4 and 14 years old. Vending machine accepts credit cards and cash, multiple languages are available (please just consider to get there 10 minutes before since only 1 machine is available and it is not super fast)

• When taking trains for the trip back to Casa Elsa please check always the route and the timetable with apps like “Trainline” or “Orario Treni” or via official website www.trenitalia.it and ensure that destination station you type is “Torre in Pietra – Palidoro”

• All trains headed to “Torre in Pietra – Palidoro” always have as FINAL destination “CIVITAVECCHIA” or “PISA CENTRALE”. Please always remember to check if your train stops at “Torre in Pietra – Palidoro” station (not all trains of FL5 line stop here)

• The very last train of the day departs from Roma Termini at 23:15 and stops at “Torre in Pietra – Palidoro” at 00:05. In case of emergency or late arrival the only solution to get to Casa Elsa is via TAXI:

    • Rome Taxi line (3570): +39 06 3570

    • Ladispoli Taxi line (Mauro): +39 339 729 1154 (Ladispoli is the nearest town to Casa Elsa having a taxi service – please consider this only if you’re stuck or blocked in this area)

    • Please consider that a taxi from Rome to Casa Elsa (40km) might cost not less than 100 EUR

FOOD AND DRINKS

Restaurants / Pizzerias (2-3 mins drive - not recommended by walking, except for Bar Sorriso)

• Don Chisciotte - Good pizza and food in a country location

• La Cantinaccia - Pizza, Meat, Fish

• TIP  - Brewery, hamburgers

• Fuori Giri - Pizzeria, fish, meat (good for value, 5mins drive)

• Bar sorriso  - Simple place, quick lunch, good for value (pasta/meat/side dishes/desserts) - on the other side of the rail, reachable by 5 mins walk

• McDonalds 

• Lucky Star - Chinese/Sushi bar

Sea front - fish restaurants (5mins drive)

• La lampara (link) - nice location, family restaurant 

• La playa (link) - good location (on the beach), quality

• Laguna Blu (link) - good location (on the beach), quality

Note: check always menu prices vs weight when ordering fish (expecially for second courses)

Country side restaurants (15mins drive - perfect for kids in a sunny day)

• Villa I 4 Ricci (link) - very good country restaurant, beautiful garden, booking recommended

• Casale del Castellaccio (link) - country restaurant, garden, animals for kids, booking recommended, 10mins drive
