When I moved to New Zealand, I found that I learned the regional flora better taking pictures of plants and then cataloging the species. Is this a hobby? Or part of my job? Hard to tell, but I do know that I thoroughly enjoy it. These days, my "life list" (plant, animal and fungi observations around the world) consists of >3,000 species, primarily in North America and New Zealand. The full list can be found on iNaturalist, but below you can find reels of some of my favorites.Â
I mostly use a macro-lens, so most of my pictures are of things that can't run away (plants) or small things that didn't run away fast enough (arthropods). But every once in a while, I get lucky and snap a nice picture of a vertebrate as well. Note that all pictures included here are unaltered and of wild animals and plants.
