Paige Hillen

I am a fifth year PhD candidate in mathematics at UC Santa Barbara working with Darren Long. I study topology and geometric group theory, often from an arithmetic perspective. Lately, I've been thinking about arithmetic properties of representations of surfaces and 3-manifolds. This academic year I am president of UCSB's Association for Women in Math student chapter.

Visualizing mathematics is another interest of mine. Creating images helps deepen my own understanding and is a fun way to engage the larger community with math from an artistic perspective.

Outside of math, I like to spend time with my dog Hazel, do yoga, highline, and enjoy time outdoors.

I live and work on unceded territories of the Chumash people. I am privileged to enjoy these lands and waters as they support my recreation, research, and education. The Chumash peoples have been separated from these lands and seas, and unable to live freely on them as they should.
