Visa & Arrival
Dear friends,
we want to make your arrival as easy and seamless as possible, so we’ve put together some important information for you.
Pai is known for its laid-back, slow living atmosphere, mountain views, hot springs, waterfalls, stunning sunset spots, vibrant café and healing community.
Pai’s natural hot springs are heated by geothermal energy, bringing mineral-rich water to the surface. Their healing minerals, gentle warmthmand serene jungle setting make them a uniquely soothing and therapeutic experience.
Weather in Pai:
Pai in January and February feels like a gentle embrace: warm sunshine during the day, clear blue skies, and refreshing cool nights. The dry season brings lightness to the air and a calm, peaceful energy to the mountains, ideal for retreats, creativity and slow living.
VISA-FREE for total stay of max. 90 days (= short-term tourists):
Current visa regulations for German and most EU citizens (as of June 17, 2026):
◾ Visa-free entry to Thailand for 60 days
◾ One-time extension of 30 days at a Thai Immigration Office (fee: 1,900 THB)
◾ The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) must be completed online before arrival
◾ Passport must be valid for at least 6 months upon entry
◾ Proof of onward or return travel may be requested upon arrival
What's new?
On May 19, 2026, the Thai government approved a proposal to reduce the visa-free stay from 60 days back to 30 days. However, this change will only become effective once it has been officially published in the Royal Gazette and the implementation period has passed.
Until then, the current 60-day visa exemption remains in effect. Several official sources have confirmed that travelers can continue to enter Thailand under the existing 60-day visa-free scheme until the new regulation is formally enacted.
Tourist Visa (TR) for long stays/more visits in one year (= legitimate planned stay):
◾it's a official embassy approven tourist Visa (pre-approved right to enter)
◾for second/third visit in one year (longer stays)
◾60 days stay guaranteed + 30 days extension (can apply again later the same year)
◾much lower risk at immigration for longer stays
◾no questioning about "how often you come"
◾apply in advance (Processing time: 3 - 10 working days) at https://www.thaievisa.go.th (only official site)
Prepare required documents (simple)
• Passport (valid 6+ months)
• Passport photo
• Proof of accommodation (hotel / invitation)
• Proof of funds (bank statement)
• Outbound flight (can be refundable)
◾Pay fee: approx. 35–40 € (varies slightly)
All international travelers must submit the TDAC online:
LINK: Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)
◾Submit it within 72 hours before your arrival in Thailand
◾You will receive a QR code that you show at immigration
◾This is NOT a visa.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months upon arrival.
Travelers may be asked to show an onward or return ticket and proof of sufficient funds (approx. 10,000 THB per person).
These checks are not always performed but remain official entry requirements.

Recommondation for SIM-Card:
We recommend AIS provider, 30 days, 70 GB, unlimited calls: 350 baht (in any 7/11, cheaper then 7 days at the airport).
You will not find this prices at the airport (there just use their free WiFi).
At the airport they sell more expensive versions for tourists, they are great of course, just more expensive; unless you want esim - then airport is a good choice.
There are also other providers such as True or dTac - they say True is better than dTac.
There will be Internet at our place but it is good to have your own as well in any case.

◾Minibus from Chiang Mai - Pai (ca. 2,5 hrs drive)
Every day and every hour one driver is driving from 09:30 am - 3:00 pm to Pai.

Travel Insurance:
Please note that travel health insurance for short trips to Asia (typically up to 45 or 60 days) is usually available online at very affordable rates.
Additional coverage such as trip cancellation, trip interruption, and baggage insurance can often be added during the booking process of a flight.
These benefits are also frequently included cheaper with certain credit cards, such as Visa or Mastercard, depending on your card provider and policy terms.
If you are looking for long-term travel insurance, I can highly recommend Young Travellers and the support of Mr. Uwe Dittner, who will be happy to assist you in finding suitable coverage for your travels.
