WHO
We are Pack 978! A Family pack of boys and girls in grades K through 5th.
Parents are highly active in our pack and are expected to attend and participate in meetings and events throughout the year. Our leadership is made up 100% of volunteer parents.
WHAT
We focus on Scout values, ethics and outdoor activities all based around the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
Our pack goes camping multiple times a year in various locations, camping in tents with other families and learning how to build a campfire, exploring wildlife and cooking outside in the beautiful wilderness.
We work towards earning Adventure awards throughout the year in areas such as Community, Outdoors, Duty to Country and Family, Character and Leadership and Personal Safety.
We hold numerous exciting events like the Raingutter Regatta and Pinewood Derby, Scouting for Food drive, as well as hiking, biking, canoeing, fishing, swimming, archery, slingshot, bows and arrows, BB guns (grade 1 and up) and so much more!
WHEN
Our Scout program is a 12 month, year round program - unlike many other clubs or activities your child may join. We encourage you to be active as much as you can, but do not expect you to be at every event. We hope you are, of course!
Camping is held throughout the school year Friday evening thru Sunday morning, usually one a month - sometimes more!
Pack meetings (all grades and families together) meet every six weeks approximately on Mondays at 6:30pm.
Den meetings (by grade) meet every week also on Mondays from 6:30-7:30pm when Orange County and Oakland Charter Schools have classes.
We also hold volunteer and fundraising events on weekends.
WHERE
Our meeting location is Oakland Presbyterian Church in the heart of Oakland, Florida.
Some of our favorite camping locations are Moss Pack, Flaming Arrow Scout Reservation, Florida Elks Youth Camp, Cracker Creek and Camp Joy/Kelly Park.
We also love attending our extra special Council site Camp La-No-Che which hosts all of our Range and Target Activities (BB gun, archery, rifle) and seasonal camporees like Cub Holiday and Cub Halloween.
These are all within 90 minutes of Oakland and easy to get to as a family.
WHY
Cub Scouting focuses on the home and neighborhood. It helps Scouts strengthen connections to their local communities, which in turn supports their growth and development.
We believe in building strong youth in areas such as character, leadership, citizenship, family and reverence, and personal safety.
And we love being outside and helping others!
