Scouting is Family Oriented
Your son/daughter is a member of a Cub Scout Den
Your son/daughter is a member of a Cub Scout Pack
The Pack is run by a Pack Committee (group of parent volunteers)
The Pack is owned by a Chartering Organization
How much does it cost?
Pack 20 STRIVES to make scouting the lowest cost experience as possible!
This is acheived by our fundraisers!
Registration / Application Fees:
Are determined by Boy Scouts of America and is paid to our local Council. The fee for this year registration is $33 due by October 31st.
Other Fees:
Paid on an event by event basis. For the Scouts, the majority of our activities are free or will be paid for by our fundraising: popcorn, bbq plates, camp cards and etc. Activity fees for family members depending on the type activity would be additional, but you will know enough in advance to make a decision on if your able to attend. We try and keep the cost of additional activities with-in reason. Council sets their own prices for their activities.
Scouting Class A Uniforms:
The blue lions t-shirt worn by the lions, blue uniform worn by Tigers, Wolves, and Bears or the khaki and green uniform worn by the WEBELOS and Arrow of Light. We suggest you buy a uniform a couple of sizes too big so that they can wear it several years. The cost of the uniform is the responsibility of the family. Uniforms may be purchased at the Musselman Scout Shop at McGimsey Scout Park (2226 NW Military Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78213).
Class B Shirts:
For many of our events, when a full uniform is not practical, but we still want to be identified as Cub Scouts, we wear our Class B shirts. We encourage families to also purchase their own Class Bs.
Class B shirts will be ordered by the Pack. You will receive a order form for the class b T-shirts.
Financial Burden:
The cost of a uniform should never prevent an interested Scout from participating. If you have a concern regarding the cost of either, please speak with your Den Leader or a member of the Pack Committee.
Fundraising:
We will participate in a few fundraisers throughout the year. When we achieve our goals it helps keep scouting affordable and allows us to do more. Fundraising also helps our scouts “earn their way”! We do require for scouts to participate in the fundraisers. Returning scouts are required to fundraise $200 which is due by Oct. 1st
New Scouts are required to fundraise a total of $185. $92.50 Would be due by Oct. 1st due date, the remaining $92.50 would be due by the pack meeting on Nov. 18th.
If fundraising goals are not met by your due date, the family is responsible for paying the remaining amount. You do have an option to buy out from fundraising by paying the amount required for your scout.
Fundraisers planned for this year:
Trail’s End Popcorn Sales (September – October)
We sell scouting not popcorn! The Pack can earn up to 35% of our gross popcorn sales. The far majority of the Pack’s scouting experience is paid for by popcorn. (For online sales we can earn 40%!)
When we set up in front of a business and sell popcorn it is called a Show & Sell. The majority of our popcorn is sold at Show & Sells organized by our Popcorn Kernels. Shifts are typically 2 hours and have 1 Scout selling at a time.
We also participate in Take Orders. These sales are when your Scout takes an order form around to friends and family and they order popcorn for delivery at a later date.
*Please see the popcorn calendar and training materials for more details on prizes and deadlines.
Hike-a-thon (June/October)
You collect donations or pledges for Hiking a predetermined amount of miles. We will pick a trail that all scouts can hike up to 5 miles round trip. this is an easy way to reach your fundraising goal.
Camp Cards (Late February – Early May)
Camp Cards offer discounts at several area businesses. Cards are sold for $5 and 50% comes back to the Pack. We use Camp Card sales to pay for summer camps (Day Camp or WOA Camp).

Scout speak
Akela –
In Cub Scout packs, Akela is a symbol of wisdom, authority, and leadership. Akela is anyone who provides guidance or acts as a leader to the Scout. The Cubmaster, Den Leader, and parents are all Akelas.
Two Deep Leadership –
Pack 20 will always use “Two Deep Leadership” as defined by BSA. Individual Scouts will not be alone with a Leader or Akela to which he is not related.
YPT – Youth Protection Training.
The Boy Scouts of America places the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members. To maintain such an environment, the BSA developed numerous procedural policies which are explained and reviewed in YPT. Youth Protection training is required for all BSA registered volunteers, regardless of their position.
Buddy System –
Scouts take care of each other. Scouts will utilize the “buddy system” during all Pack events whenever individual Scouts need to move away from the larger Pack group. The “buddy system” is simply a group of two or more Scouts who will stay together when they are separated from the Pack.
Boy’s Life –
Boy’s Life is the monthly magazine of the Boy Scouts of America. It is full of great information, projects, and jokes.
Bobcat Badge –
The Bobcat badge is earned prior to all other ranks. If a boy/girl joins Cub Scouting as a Wolf, Bear, or Webelos, he must earn the Bobcat badge first before receiving any other award or rank. Requirements include:
