How Often Does Pack 152 Meet? Do I Need to Attend with My Child?
Click here for meeting and calendar information. Pack 152 has a policy of parental attendance and involvement. We believe Scouting is about building strong family connections, and this starts with your support, guidance, and active presence as your child experiences the Scouting program. If you wish to drop and go, another Cub Scout Pack that offers this would be a better fit for your family.
Who Runs the Pack?
Like all Cub Scout groups, we are run by a group of dedicated volunteers who are mainly parents of children in the group. This is done under the auspices and hierarchical structure of the Boy Scouts of America and also the Sam Houston Area Council, which is the organizational umbrella in the Houston region. These groups provide training, support, and amazing facilities and curated programming the Scouts have in our area, including Bovay Scout Ranch, Brosig Scout Camp, Philmont Scout Ranch, Adventure Camp, and the National Youth Leadership Training Program, among others.
What Does It Cost to Join?
Pack 152 provides its programming based a combination of revenue streams, including annual dues, á-la-carte charges, and donations. We want to be transparent about the costs of our group. Should you wish to join and have financial considerations that may prevent you from doing so, please discuss options with the Committee Chair.
Membership per Cub: $91* and Adult Partner Membership: $71* per family. An additional $35 per scout is paid annually for local supply costs, covering rank advancement patches, belt loops, etc. Tiger- and Lion-rank adult parents are free. Financial assistance is available: please don't hesitate to ask -- we believe every kid deserves a chance to try Scouting!
Á-La-Carte Charges for Optional Activities: This cost depends on the activities you choose to participate in. Most of our events are free, but some have costs due to food and lodging, as applicable (e.g., overnight camping or third-party admission fees).
Uniform: Pack 152 is a "belt-up" Cub Scout Pack. We only ask that Cubs wear an official belt and uniform shirt. The Pack supplies the neckerchief and slide. The Pack also has used uniforms in good condition for free to help parents save money!
Transportation: Cub families provide their own transportation to and from meetings and events.
Fundraising: Pack 152 does not participate in active fundraising, however, this may be a requirement if the Cub is on Sam Houston Area Council financial assistance.
Donations: Although not required, many of our families donate meeting or office supplies, food for campouts, etc. Monetary donations are also welcome.
*Includes required $6 to Sam Houston Area Council insurance.
What Are the Uniform Requirements?
To help defray costs, please read the Uniform section under "What Does It Cost to Join Pack 152" on this page before purchasing your child's uniform (can save you $):
Click below for the official uniform elements to purchase at Houston area Scoutshops (map):

Other Specifics:
Lions: T-shirt only, no neckerchief or slide is worn in Pack 152 for this age group.
Arrows of Light ("AOL" / 5th graders): The uniform changes to a khaki shirt and olive pants as the Cubs begin their transition to Scouts BSA ("the Troop" level). Buy the shirt in an appropriate size, and it will last for several years as your child enters Troop 152 (Scouting for ages 11-18).
Required Field Uniform Patches for Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos, and AOL (Note: Pack 152 does not use Den numbers in case you get that question when buying at the Scoutshop):
Cub Scout World Crest Emblem & World Crest Ring Emblem
Sam Houston Area Council Patch - this should already be pre-sewn on the shirt
Pack Unit Numbers - 152 (numbers are sold individually, but Pack may be able to supply these numbers for free)
U.S. Flag Patch (already pre-sewn on all Scout shirts)
NOTE: Several of the above patches may be purchased already sewn on the field uniform shirt (Pack unit numbers excluded). The Houston Area Scout Shop offers a patch sewing service, or you may sew the patches on yourself or use Badge Magic Instant Adhesive (usually available at the Scout Shop). As your child earns ranks, more patches will be added, but the Pack provides those.
What Are Ranks?
Ranks are badges Cubs Scouts earn based on their school grade level. Cubs work on fun things during their den meetings to earn belt loops that recognize their achievements. Once they earn all the required loops for their rank, they earn their rank badge. There are many more belt loops than are required to earn rank. A child joining Cub Scouts works on the rank that corresponds to the Cub's grade level as follows:
Kindergarten or age 5: Lion
Entering 1st Grade: Tiger
Entering 2nd Grade: Wolf
Entering 3rd Grade: Bear
Entering 4th Grade: Webelos
Entering 5th Grade: Arrow of Light (AOL)*
Bobcat is the first rank every Cub Scout earns, no matter what grade the Cub is in.
*At age 10.5, a newly entering child is eligible to join Scouting America at the Troop level (older kids), if interested, with a very similar curriculum.
What Is a Den and What is a Pack? What is a Troop?
A den is a small group of Cub Scouts who are working on the same rank. Your child will be assigned to a den that corresponds to his/her grade level after registering. Each den is lead by a parent volunteer who delivers the Cub Scout program.
A Pack is made up of the Cub Scouts in all the dens. The Pack meets as a large group once a month to have fun together and to recognize Cubs who have earned belt loops, pins, awards, ranks, or other achievements.
A Troop is the term used for a group of Boy Scouts, not Cub Scouts. Cub Scouts serves children in grades K-5, and Boy Scouts serves children ages 11-18. Both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts are part of the Boy Scouts of America. To contact Troop 152, go to troop152.com
