Scouting follows a national program but Packs are volunteer led by parents of Scouts in the Pack. Den Leaders, Cubmasters and other named positions participate in training such as youth safety and den leadership. These leaders execute den meetings based on materials provided by Scouts BSA. However, all families in Pack 119 contribute to the quality of the program by attending den meetings with their scouts, sharing their unique skills where they can, helping invite speakers or arranging events with leaders in our community or with local museums, parks, pools and government.
Parents or guardians should plan to attend each meeting with their Scouts, encourage them to attend regularly and occasionally finish an activity at home before the next meeting. Families should attend at least a couple of outdoor events through the year, and optimally brave a camping overnight or two. Younger siblings are welcome to attend meetings and events.
Kids won't remember much before kindergarten, and will be quite independent by time they are teenagers, but K-5 is the period where you can help shape who they will become. Scouting offers the chance to be a part of many "firsts". We are all busy, but we have 168 hours in a week. Scouting is a chance to share something special with your child during one of those hours.
