Pacing is the songwriting and recording project of Katie McTigue. McTigue’s writing style has been described as “tongue firmly planted in cheek” (Surviving the Golden Age), “distinctively sardonic” (Various Small Flames), and “I don’t get it” (multiple sources). Fans and new listeners alike often remark that her anxious, confessional lyrics are "a little too relatable."
In October 2023, Pacing released her debut album Real poetry is always about plants and birds and trees and the animals and milk and honey breathing in the pink but real life is behind a screen. It was named Best Folk Music by Bandcamp Daily, and cemented Pacing as a leader in a new wave of anti-folk music reminiscent of the early 2000s New York scene; one born in an era that is distinctly Very Online.
Pacing is based in San Jose, CA where she is heavily involved in the local DIY music scene and co-hosts The Heavy Lemon Radio Hour on KPCR. In 2024, Pacing joined San Jose’s own legendary punk and indie label Asian Man Records.
Earlier this year, Pacing released a mini album called songs and went on a national tour for two months as a full band supporting her favorite band, Cheekface.
Pacing’s self-produced sophomore album PL*NET F*TNESS is out now via Asian Man Records and features collaborations with Star 99 and Career Woman. In August, Pacing will embark on a full-band national tour supporting folk-punk legends (and AMR alumni) AJJ. The touring band for Pacing features Ben Krock on guitars and Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter Vonnie Whatever on drums and vocals.
