Unusual among SfN chapters, the Pacific Cascade chapter covers institutions across the state of Washington. In an effort to build cohesion and maintain local continuity, the chapter asks each participating institutional member to appoint institutional representatives to the chapter. Each institution should have one faculty or staff representative, and may also have one trainee (postdoc, graduate student, or undergraduate student) representative.
Institutional representatives may also serve as councilors or officers.
Recruit your institution to become an institutional member if it is not already
Ensure institutional chapter membership dues are paid annually
This does not mean the representative is responsible for providing the funds or even necessarily for making the payment, but rather to coordinate with the administration at the institution/department to ensure that dues are up to date
Serve as the primary point of contact between the institution and the chapter
To the chapter: send opportunities for inclusion in chapter newsletters, refer other faculty, staff, and students to become chapter members
From the chapter: share opportunities from the chapter, such as applying for BAW funds and chapter events, with colleagues
Attend chapter meetings - virtual, 2-4x annually
Optional, organize local events that may be sponsored by the chapter - can apply for chapter funding to support
