Diane de Saint Léger is a sociolinguist from the School of Language and Linguistics. Her research interests are in second language acquisition and pedagogy, corpus assisted discourse studies, critical discourse analysis and linguistic landscapes. This research project builds on a series of field trips undertaken with undergraduate students over the past 10 years. It is motivated by a growing awareness of the need to put the region ‘on the map’.
Luke Yin is a confirmed PhD candidate from the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies. His doctoral research concentrates on the urban history of treaty ports and everyday life in late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries China. Luke joined this research project as a part of his Digital Studio internship. Luke is interested in Digital Humanities and its applications, especially in geoparsing, mapping, and data visualisation.
Christopher Orrell is a PhD candidate from the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies. His research focusses on nineteenth century medical periodicals and their role in the construction of both medical knowledge and professional medicine. He has joined this project as a part of the Digital Studio's Internship programme. Chris' interest in the Digital Humanities lies in text mining, topic modelling, network analysis, and the applications thereof.
