Abby Schirmer

Director of Debate

Abby is in her first year as Director of Debate at Pace Academy. Prior to coaching and teaching at Pace, Abby spent 4 years coaching at Marist School in Atlanta, GA and 7 years coaching at Stratford Academy in Macon, GA.

Abby has coached six State Champions and coached the winner of the Baker Award (given to the top Policy Debate team in the nation) twice. During her tenure at Stratford, her policy teams won the Emory, MBA, Harvard and St. Marks and reached semifinals at the Tournament of Champions. Abby is the recipient of the 2011 NDCA Rising Star Award. While at Marist, her teams have reached elimination rounds at the University of Georgia, Greenhill, University of Michigan, Chattahoochee, Samford University, Cypress Bay and Isidore Newman tournaments.

Ed Williams

Middle School Debate Coach

Ed Williams has been coaching debate for over 20 years. His students have been successful at every major national circuit tournament including NSDA Nationals and the Tournament of Champions. He has successfully built debate programs at multiple schools including Charlotte Latin School, Marist School and Calhoun High School. He is a Barkley Forum Key Coach, and past Board Member of the National Debate Coaches Association. Ed is probably the only coach to have won State Championships in debate and football. He has worked at summer workshops throughout the country including Bates College, Dartmouth, Wake Forest University and the University of Texas.
