I was involved in volunteering work at the Beyond Chacay Foundation from 2013 to 2016. We worked at the Galapagos Islands with native students, local stakeholders, and the government to empower local people towards a paradigm shift in the use of smart technology. The goal was to promote the use of technology for tourism and keep sustainable businesses practices.
I volunteered at Un Techo Para mi Pais. In groups of 3-5 people, we built temporary rescue houses from the foundations to the roof for people from abandoned neighborhoods. This non-profit organization helps overcome the poverty situation of millions of people from informal settlements in Latin America. It is hard to describe the gratitude and emotion you get from people when they get their new home. It is a wonderful and touching experience.
I have always been passionate about soccer. I started playing as a young kid, and I kept practicing for more than 15 years. I've been part of my high school team, and also played in several official amateur tournaments. I love watching Champions League games, and I support AC Milan.
At the University of Houston, we have a team, Supergravity, with people from the Physics department. We have participated in co-ed and men vs men tournaments.
Along the years I have been fortunate to visit several places. The one that impacted me the most is definitely the Galapagos Islands. It is a natural wonder, where the experience of being close to unique animals and admire them without interfering with them is bolstered by local people. Other places that I enjoyed are Bariloche and its beautiful landscapes, Chicago in the windy season, New York with its museums, and Houston with their unique variety of dining offers.
After graduating from high school, I started working and with my first paychecks I decided to learn French. I looked up for potential places to learn and came across l'Alliance Francaise in Quito. It was the beginning of a long journey where I started learning romance languages. Afterwards, it was Italian, which I started learning by myself because I am a fan of AC Milan, a soccer team from Italy. I also started learning German and Chinese, but progress has been slow since I started Grad School.
In my free time, I also enjoy cooking. I especially like to learn how to prepare new recipes and try new cuisines. I am an amateur with no formal training, but I love to try new things.
Currently, I am trying Home Chef meals to get new recipe ideas.
