Purchasing a kitten from a breeder you don't know can be stressful. There are many scammers out there and non-reputable breeders, so it is understandable that buyers have concerns about losing money or purchasing an unhealthy kitten. Being a customer myself, I try my best to make our buyers feel comfortable during the selection and buying process. You are welcome to message me privately on Facebook or email me any questions about our available kittens. There are no wrong or bad questions.
Also, feel free to Google my name. You'll find my work information online. You can also add me as a Facebook friend and check my profile. Whenever someone is interested in my kittens, I'm happy to talk to them over the phone or Zoom, and I'd be happy to show you the kitten on Zoom before you pay a deposit. Once you reserve the kitten, I'll indicate it is reserved to you on our Facebook Page. You can expect to receive weekly pictures or videos showing the kitten's progress. After you take the kitten home, I'll continue to support you and your kitten, by sharing my knowledge and experience with Persian cats with you.
Notice that, like most breeders, I do not accept visits to our cattery. That's for safety reasons - Ours and our cattery's. Our cats are indoor cats, which protects them from pests and diseases found outside. By not accepting visitors, we avoid cross-contamination that occurs especially (but not exclusively) when potential buyers have other pets. For the same reason, when we deliver a kitten we arrange to meet in a public place, not our home/cattery. Many buyers see this practice with suspicion, but it is a common practice in our profession and it also guarantees the buyer's safety. If this or any other practice we enforce makes you feel unsafe or insecure, talk to us and we will find other ways to assure you of the legitimacy of our business.
Kittens only leave their first home once they complete 12 weeks of age. This guarantees they are healthy and that they will not develop behavioral problems as adults, which are very difficult to resolve. If you are certain you want to commit to a kitten before it reaches the proper age, you can reserve it for a deposit. The cost of the deposit is USD350.00. This amount will be subtracted from the full price of the kitten when you pay for the full amount. The deposit is non-refundable.
Payment is required at the moment the kitten leaves our cattery. We accept different types of payment, including bank deposit, Zelle, and Venmo. For PyPal, a 3% fee is added to the price. We do not accept credit cards or cash. The price of the kitten does not cover the carrier (in case you don't have one) or transportation services. See section about transportation below.
Kittens born in our cattery are registered to CFA and will have an official name, which will show in all the kitten's documentation. This name starts with the name of the cattery, Ozarkarela. Usually, the middle name of the kitten is given by the breeder, but if you reserve the kitten before the kitten is registered, I'll consider your name choice.
Kitten prices depend on the kitten quality (pet, breeding, or show) and the cost of their care. The price of the kitten does not include transportation to their future homes and spay/neutering services. Prices may range from USD900.00 to USD1,300.00. If you find that to be expensive, you are right. Persian kittens are not cheap. And that is not all, the cost for maintaining a Persian cat is also not low when you consider annual vaccines, visits to the vet, eventual health issues, food and litter, cat furniture and toys, pet sitting and grooming services (if you find out you cannot handle it yourself). This is why purchasing a Persian kitten is a decision to be considered carefully.
Persian kittens also cost a lot for the breeder. The cost includes the care of the mother and father, testing for genetic diseases, registration fees, veterinarian consultations and vaccines, microchipping, etc. Because of that, many breeders take offense when buyers insist on bargaining. While I do not mind customers asking for discounts and I am always open to considering them when I know we've found the perfect family for a kitten, I also ask that buyers be respectful of our pricing practices and understand if discounts cannot be made to their complete satisfaction.
When you buy a kitten from us, you will be required to spay or neuter your kitten. This is required to prevent over-population and haphazard breeding, and to protect the breeder's bloodlines. We understand that many times families want to purchase intact cats and experience the joy of breeding at home, but in the case of Persian cats that is not an easy endeavor, and breeding should not be taken lightly. It is the responsibility of reputable breeders, therefore, to protect the descendants of their bloodlines by selling intact cats only to other breeders. If you wish to become a breeder, that's another story. See the "Resources" page about breeding Persian cats.
If you are not a breeder, you will be offered one of two options, depending on the size and age of the kitten you are purchasing. Kittens that are okayed by our veterinarian to take part of our early spay and neuter program, can undergo the procedure while still in the care of the cattery, and we will provide postoperative care. The cost of the procedure, however, is not included in the cost of the kitten. The added cost of the procedure must be agreed upon by both the breeder and buyer and enter the purchase agreement (contract).
If your kitten cannot be spayed or neutered before leaving our cattery, the purchase agreement will specify that (a) the buyer agrees to have the procedure done not later than three months after taking the kitten home, (b) the buyer will provide in the purchase agreement information regarding the pet hospital that will perform the procedure, (c) the buyer will pay a good-faith deposit in the amount of the spay/neutering procedure that will be refunded once they provide documentation that the procedure has been completed, and (d) the breeder will withhold the kitten's CFA paperwork until documentation showing that the kitten has been spayed or neutered is received. In general, the cost of spaying and neutering services range from USD100.00 and USD 300.00 depending on the area.
We are located in Nixa (Missouri). If you live more than three hours from us, we are happy to drive and meet you half way. Well, depending on how far you are located, we may not be able to meet you exactly half way, but we'll do our best. We do not charge extra for that. In general, we are able to drive one to two hours your way. Because my husband and I both work full time jobs, weekends will work best for us in this case. Our ability to travel and meet buyers will depend on our work schedule and other commitments.
If you live too far from us and you cannot come personally to get your kitten, you may want to consider a pet nanny. I'd be happy to recommend one for you. I only send my kittens with pet nannies I trust. If you have someone in mind, I'll consider them, but I will only trust my kitten to them if I'm able to verify the quality of their work. Pet nannies usually charge for their own airfare, the pet's airfare (typically USD125 one way) and a fee. I may be available to transport the kitten myself, so feel free to ask me. In that case, I'll charge for mine and the kitten's airfare, but I do not charge a fee.
