About Us

The Oxford Ecumenical Food Shelf

The mission of the Oxford Food Shelf is to provide FREE emergency grocery assistance to any family living in the town of Oxford, Massachusetts, and to families who are not residents of Oxford but who are registered members of an Oxford Church.

We do not discriminate in any way. Every resident in town can come to us for food. We also provide food to the homeless individuals and families living within our community.

The Oxford Food Shelf operates as a CHOICE food pantry, meaning that families come in and choose the foods they need or want. We provide each family with the dignity of being able to shop for their own items. They pick out what they can use.

Each family is allowed two shopping trips each month, except in months with five Thursdays and we are open on all five Thursdays, families are allowed three shopping trips.

Families can select from these foods: canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned tuna, dry cereals, soups, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, baked beans, rice, condiments, and snacks.

Families also receive fresh produce, frozen meats, and dairy items as available. We have personal care and cleaning items as available, as well as baby food and donated formula.

We also distribute USDA food as we receive it from the Worcester County Food Bank.

In addition, we provide families with information on WIC, SNAP, Healthy Eating, Home Heating Assistance Programs and information on free and reduced cost medical care.

The Oxford Food Shelf is operated by members of the Oxford Ecumenical Council. The Council is made up of representatives from the Oxford First Baptist Church, First Congregational Church, The Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Oak Hill Bible Church, St. Roch’s Catholic Church, United Methodist Church, and the Zion Lutheran Church.

The Oxford Ecumenical Council is a registered 501(C)3 Non-Profit Organization. Everything we distribute is raised through donations from local churches, businesses, schools, organizations, families and individuals who generously contribute to us.
