Welcome to Orchestra at Olathe West! We are so glad you're here! Going into high school can be intimidating, and full of overwhelming choices. We hope this information is helpful and encourages you to include orchestra in your high school experience. We're a family over at West, and would love to add you to it!
Quotes from Students:
"The longer you stay in orchestra the more fun it gets!"
"It’s a fun, productive hobby, you make lots of friends, you go on fun trips!"
"It’s a fun environment! It gives you an extra 'brain break' from your other classes. It’s pleasing to your mind. There’s activities within the orchestra that provide more opportunities."
Do I need to audition?
NO!!!! All students are welcome into Freshman Orchestra (PA570) their 1st year at West. Students who choose to may audition up into Concert or Chamber Orchestra at semester or the end of the year.
Can I be in Orchestra AND Athletics/Other Activities?
YES!!!! It is very common for Olathe West Orchestra students to participate in other activities. Orchestra typically does NOT conflict with activities, and the coaches/teachers work together when there is a conflict!
Can I be in Orchestra AND a 21st Century Academy/AP Classes?
YES!!! The key is careful scheduling and course selection. The sample schedules provided below outline how students are able to play in orchestra all four years AND be in a 21st Century Academy with AP classes.
Sample 4-year class schedules including Orchestra that meet the district graduation requirements:
**Orchestra will count as your fine arts credit, and counts toward your Individual Focus credits!
