In honor of Black History Month, I thought it would be good to highlight The 1619 Project. According to their website, The 1619 Project shines a light on the history of slavery in our country and shows the impact Black Americans have had on our world. The site has lesson plans for teachers on a variety of different topics including redlining, American hypocrisy, race in the early colonies, reparations, etc. There are lessons on the history of music, and there are several that use art to really dive further into topics. I would recommend clicking on “Curricular Resources” at the top of the page, scroll down and filter by grade level. I would not, however, click on “Lesson Plans” under format. When I did that, my results were very limited.
