Which is which and how do you use it?
Sick leave or Illness leave are the days that are accumulated annually (12 days per year) and can be used for anything medically related (doctor's appointments, days home sick, etc.)
Personal Necessity (PN) are days that you put in for in advance that gets approved by your administrator.
When using sick leave, after three consecutive days, admin has the right to ask you for a doctor's note. It is not advisable to use sick days for personal necessity.
It is very important that you don't confuse the two!
All unit members called for jury duty in a court of law shall continue to receive regular salary and benefits, less any jury fees received by the unit member. The unit member shall retain any mileage reimbursement.
The Superintendent or his or her designee may discuss with the affected unit member the practicality of seeking deferral of jury service to summer or such time as his or her services are not required by the District.
Unit members regularly called for jury duty in a court of law during their regular work year who elect to defer their jury service to non-required service days (i.e., summer break) shall be compensated in an amount equal to the District’s daily substitute teacher rate of pay for each day of jury service that was deferred. The unit member must provide written documentation to the District showing the original jury summons date and the actual date(s) of jury duty served prior to receiving compensation under this section. Any jury fees received by the unit member shall be deducted from the amount paid to the unit member, but the unit member shall be entitled to retain any mileage reimbursement paid for the jury service.
The unit member shall submit to his or her immediate supervisor a written notification for jury duty leave accompanied by a copy of an official summons for jury service, no fewer than ten (10) days prior to the date on which the unit member is scheduled to appear, or as soon as possible if such notice is received less than ten (10) days prior to the time for service.
Definitions
A “grievance” is a claim by the Association or by one or more unit members that there has been a violation, misinterpretation or misapplication of a provision of this Agreement.
An “aggrieved person” is the person, including the Association or representative thereof, making the claim.
A “party in interest” is any person who might be required to take action or against whom action may be taken in order to resolve the claim.
