Contours: Mapped to Scale, 2023
Contours: Mapped to Scale is a quiet exploration of landscape—both physical and internal—compressed into an intimate book form. Created using valley and mountain folds, the structure expands and contracts like breath, or like the shifting terrain it references.
Inside, earthy tones of green and brown suggest forests, fields, and soil. The cover is backed with a fragment of an old Ordnance Survey map, tying the piece to a specific, if obscured, geography. The ribbon closure adds a sense of containment and secrecy, as though this is a private map, folded and carried in the pocket.
The piece plays with scale and significance—how something expansive can be distilled into a form small enough to sit in the palm of a hand.
