A red flag during qualifying causes huge confusion. So is there a penalty for causing a red flag?

Red flag during qualifying – what are the consequences?

Qualifying events (especially the last segment) always evoke great emotions. Moreover, sometimes it happens that a red flag raised by one of the drivers has a significant impact on the final classification. It must also be admitted that the appearance of a red flag brings with it great emotions. Drivers are often accused of acting intentionally.

Premeditated action?

Talking about intentional action is certainly controversial. It's hard to talk about evidence. On the other hand, there is no doubt that sport is the most important thing. Of course, luck also matters in sports, but it would be good if the driver's skills and the car's capabilities played the greatest possible role.

Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that causing a red flag during qualifying will result in a penalty. The regulations for Formula 2 and Formula 3 for the 2024 season even include information according to which causing a red flag may have the following consequences:

ban on further participation in the session,

deleting the best time.

It also states that a given driver must be found guilty of displaying a red flag. This is an interesting change and suggests that similar rules will be introduced to Formula 1 in the future.

Another season for Max Verstappen?

When it comes to predicting what awaits us next season, one driver comes to mind mainly - Max Verstappen. If someone is interested in betting, it is worth taking a look at the offer of Vulkan Vegas . After all, betting is not only about predicting the world champion.

Will increasing the influence of judges introduce further controversy?

Returning to the red flags during qualifying, the question arises whether the introduction of changes will not cause further controversy? On the one hand, causing a red flag should result in a penalty, but on the other hand, everything will depend on the referees. It has long been known that judges' decisions can be misunderstood.

It is also worth considering whether excluding a competitor from the qualifications and deducting the best time is not too severe a punishment. Wouldn't it be enough to exclude a given player from further participation in the qualifications? There are a lot of doubts and it seems that we will be wiser when the recipe starts to be applied. Then it will be possible to assess this regulation from the perspective of both F1 officials and drivers. However, it can be assumed that there will be no shortage of discussions should changes occur.

Sports emotions

The most important thing is to make it more fair and the next season to be full of great sporting emotions. The last two years have been dominated by Max Verstappen - does the Dutchman have a chance to win a fourth title in a row? From the perspective of a neutral viewer, the most important thing is that the competition is as fierce as possible. We all probably still remember what happened in 2021. The fight for the championship title lasting until the last lap of the last race was something incredible. There was a lot of controversy back then, but the emotions were indescribable.

However, Lewis Hamilton has certainly not given up on his dream of an eighth championship title. Winning an eighth world championship would mean surpassing the achievement of the legendary Michael Schumacher. The last two seasons were not the best for the Briton and his Mercedes - will 2024 bring a breakthrough? We also cannot forget about the age of this brilliant driver - Hamilton will be 39 years old next January. The Briton's contract with Mercedes is valid until the end of 2025. Will this be Lewis' last contract in Formula 1? There has been some talk in recent months about the driver's doubts. In the season just ended, Hamilton did not win any race for the second time in his career. The first such case took place in 2022. Of course, Formula 1 is a discipline that requires a class driver and a very good car. Recent years have not been very good for Mercedes, but there is no doubt that the entire German team believes that they can catch up with Red Bull.

The competition in 2024 will start with the Bahrain GP race, scheduled for March 2. The last round of the season will be the Abu Dhabi GP. This race will take place only on December 8. There are 24 rounds waiting for drivers.
