Sharon Sharp Collection

Sharon Sharp's maternal grandparents came from Oklahoma.

"In high school as we studied about the Dust Bowl, I told my mom that her family were Dust Bowl Okies. She adamantly disagreed. While she was proud of her Oklahoma heritage, I believe she resisted the term so as not to be labeled as a statistic. The timeline proves otherwise."

She met my dad when she was in high school. He was an Army man stationed at Minter Field. Mom invited him to a taffy pull at her house, only to forget what he looked like until he showed up and charmed her mother. He got transfer orders her senior year. They wanted to marry so she could join him once she graduated, but she had to get permission from Shafter High as married women were not allowed to attend school. Once it was approved, they married in April, he shipped out and she joined him after graduating in June 1944.
