Hoon district is an economic zone and it ranks as the second largest district in the province, located about 96 Km far from Xay district. The district covers an area of 2,778 Square Kilometers, around 80 % is mountainous and the rest is low land. There are many different ethnic groups in Hoon district, such as Lao, Khmu, Thailue, Hmong and Thaidam.
There are several beautiful tourist destinations in Hoon district, namely Talae waterfall, Namhaeng waterfall, Sacred forest (Candle tree) and others that can attract both domestics and foreign tourists. Moreover, the district is also famous for agricultural production, especially maize cultivation.
