Ottawa Artificial Intelligence Alliance
Who We Are
The Ottawa Artificial Intelligence Alliance (Ottawa-AI) is a scientific society of artificial intelligence and machine learning researchers in the National Capital Region of Canada (Ottawa, Ontario and Gatineau, Québec).
Background
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a multidisciplinary research field that concerns the understanding of human intelligence, the design of intelligent software and hardware, and its applications in real world challenges. AI research has experienced highs and lows over its history, often in parallel with advances in computing technologies and cognitive science. Spearheaded by research into deep neural networks, we are in a new era where AI is seen globally to have enormous potential, with an unprecedented impact in every corner of people's lives.
From coast to coast, Canada is home to many AI research communities who together contribute to Canada’s strong position in international AI research ratings. Ottawa’s AI cluster includes universities, government organizations and IT companies that perform all aspects of high quality AI science and engineering. The Ottawa Artificial Intelligence Alliance was formed to make the National Capital Region’s AI capabilities better known, and to help fully exploit its potential as a leading AI cluster in the country.
Vision
Building and strengthening a diverse, inclusive and impactful AI community in Ottawa.
Aims
(1-Visibility for AI in the National Capital Region):
Ottawa-AI represents the local AI research community as a whole, with the goal of raising the awareness of the Canadian public, industry and academia to the activities of AI research groups in the National Capital Region.
(2-Networking Platform):
Ottawa-AI serves as a networking platform that brings together AI and machine learning scientists, engineers, students, and entrepreneurs to discuss theoretical advances and real-world applications of AI.
(3- Local Community):
Ottawa-AI will build a local AI community in the National Capital Region to benefit all concerned by sharing perspectives, collaborating in AI research projects, integrating intellectual and computational resources, co-supervising graduate students, and transforming knowledge into real world applications.
(4-Annual Workshop):
Each year, Ottawa-AI hosts an annual workshop in the National Capital Region.
Founding Organizations
The Ottawa Artificial Intelligence Alliance is founded by the National Research Council Canada (NRC), the University of Ottawa (uOttawa), and Carleton University (CU).
