It is important to apply for housing as soon as possible. University housing is NOT guaranteed. We encourage students to use university housing but it is not required.
The University of Otago provides housing in fully-catered residential colleges and halls, but most study abroad students are place in University of Otago flats (apartments), while a small number are placed in the Toroa International House. The flats and Toroa House are self-catered accommodations. All units are furnished and within 20 minutes walking distance from campus. Keep in mind that payment of University Flats and Toroa House are not billed through your tuition and fees so you will have plan accordingly and find the best payment option for you.
These apartments usually house 2-3 students. Otago makes an effort to include at least one New Zealand student in each flat, although that is not always possible. The main Toroa House building has a very charming garden, while each apartment unit is surrounded by lush vegetation. connect Dunedin to Christchurch, where you will be able to explore the rest of the island and Australia.

If you are studying abroad for only one semester, you may need to sublease your Champaign-Urbana apartment or find a sublease for yourself for the semester you’ll be on campus.

Use this housing board to find a semester sublease for yourself or to advertise your sublease to incoming exchange students.
If you are living in UIUC housing, notify the housing department that you will be studying abroad. We can provide a confirmation letter, if needed.
