We are officially two weeks out from the trip to Delft! We had our last meeting on Monday 6/5, where we chatted about some last things and then went on a nice long bike ride. It was good to get used to biking in a large group, and getting to meet more of the people going! I've been finishing up some preparations and getting stuff together to go!
To prepare for the trip, I watched a few videos by Mark Wagenbuur. The video I wanted to reflect on was Modernising street design in Utrecht Overvecht. The video discusses the changes made to an area of Utrecht, and how the streets were adjusted to better suit bikers and greatly reduce vehicle speed and usage in the area. The changes made were thoughtful and intentional, with speeds being lowered, speed bumps introduced that doubled as pedestrian crossings, and curbs that block certain roadways. All of these changes work together to greatly improve quality of life in the area, as well as create safer environments for pedestrians and bikers, prioritzing them over vehicles.
