Hi everyone! My name is Cassie Akih, and I’m a third-year PhD student in IDD (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities) Psychology. My research focuses on autism and other developmental conditions, with a special interest in play-based interventions and the role families play in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Outside of school and research, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I’m also a big fan of audiobooks and podcasts, and I almost always have one playing in the background!
Hi everyone! My name is Shalini Abayasekara and this fall I’ll be starting my fifth year as a PhD student in the Writing, Rhetoric, and Literacy program of the Department of English. I have a deep interest in the rhetoric of health and medicine and in disability studies, and am especially interested in exploring the intersections between language and mental illness/health. Outside of work, I love spending time with family and friends, and enjoy reading, singing, swimming, and watching (some!) movies and TV series.
