I love hard work. I love imagination. I love inventions. I love seeing someone come up with an idea and seeing that idea through until it becomes tangible. There’s nothing better than watching shark tank and getting to see all of the things people have come up with to simplify life. Well, I guess there is one thing better than that, and that’s getting to see these “sharks” invest boat loads of money into the product because they believe in not only the product, but the person behind the product.
And that’s why I am so thankful for people like those that have invented ostomy supplies. As someone who has had an ostomy procedure done, I’ve been run through the mill of what products to buy to help my situation. Because the field was not very advanced when I first had my procedure, I’d have to buy shipments of the same ostomy supplies because they just didn’t hold up like I needed them to. Now, however, with the developments in the field, the products that have been created for care put the initial products to shame.
The same type of scenario could be said regarding golf clubs. In the olden days, clubs were not near what they are today. They weren’t as durable, they weren’t as well made, and they certainly did not perform like the modern clubs do. Just 30 years ago, a big drive would have been considered a ball that was hit 250 yards.
Nowadays, that 250 yard shot can be hit with a 4 iron. If the drive isn’t over 325, it’s not considered a big drive anymore. All due to the imagination, creativity, and science behind developing the perfect club. But that’s why things have advanced the way they have, because they’re after perfection. Until something is perfect, it can always be tweaked and adjusted little by little. I can honestly say that the adjusting and tweaking of the Hollister ostomy supplies has made life so much easier for me. Are the supplies absolutely perfect? Not by a long shot.
But to look back at where the supplies began and to see how far they have come, that is something to be celebrated. I can’t imagine what the advancement in the industry will look like in just 5 years from now. But I know one thing, no one having an ostomy in the future will have to deal with the supplies I had to deal with way back when.
