What is oSTEM at UH? 

oSTEM at University of Houston is a vibrant and inclusive community of students passionate about uplifting the LGBTQIA+ STEM community on the University of Houston campus. Our aim is to provide our members with adequate resources which includes professional development advice, social events with peers, and much more!

How can I join oSTEM at UH? 

Joining is easy peasy! Simply attend any of our held events (check out our Instagram for event announcements!). You can also attend our General Body Meetings, which are usually held once every month. You can also follow our social media channels and visit our website for updates on membership information! You do NOT need to pay dues in order to join us!

Do I need to be a STEM major in order to join? 

There is no specific major requirement needed to join oSTEM at UH! We welcome students from all majors and class ranks who are interested in joining our chapter. Allies are also more than welcome to join us!

What are the benefits of joining the chapter? 

Joining oSTEM at UH offers a range of benefits, including:

• Building friendships and a sense of community among members at chapter social events!

• Opportunities for leadership roles through our committee system!

• Skill development through workshops, seminars, and panels with professionals!

• Networking opportunities with companies through conferences!

How much is the membership fee? 

The membership fee for the Fall semester is currently $20. You do NOT have to pay the fee in order to attend our events and socials! Join our discord to learn more about how to pay!

What types of events and activities does oSTEM at UH host? 

We organize a variety of events and activities such as socials, volunteering opportunities, career skill workshops, and much more! We also frequently collaborate with other organizations for various events catered towards STEM majors! These activities provide opportunities for learning, collaboration, and fun while focusing on the chapter's dedication for uplifting LGBTQIA+ STEM majors.

How can I suggest new ideas or initiatives for the chapter? 

We completely value input from our members! If you have any ideas or events concepts you wish to share with this chapter, consider joining one of our committees! From the Marketing Committee to the Fundraising Committee, oSTEM at UH has plenty of committees that you can join to help better our chapter! Your input is important in shaping the direction of the organization!

Can I attend events even if I'm not a member? 

Yes, all of our events are open to non-members (with the notable exception of the Spring final General Body Meeting, where members vote for the new administration)! However, becoming a member has its perks, including access to oSTEM T-shirts, resources, and the ability to influence our chapter's activities!

How can I stay updated on the chapter's activities? 

Stay updated by following us on Instagram and regularly checking our website for updates on upcoming events, meetings, and important announcements! You can also join our discord! All links to our socials are located at the bottom of the page!
