Welcome to the Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics student organization at the University of Houston! Here at oSTEM we strive to provide professional development for those in the LGBTQIA+ community. This includes allies, as they are very important in fostering a comfortable environment and society. We understand the difficulties that come with one’s career in STEM while being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, which is why we work to provide the tools, events, connections, and advice for all our members to succeed in their STEM career. We value compassion, initiative, and individualism, as all these qualities are key in improving the quality of life!
Demographics of Members:
According to the chart, the majority of our members hail from STEM related majors, with an almost even split between Science related majors and Engineering related majors. A sizable chunk of our members are non-STEM majors!

Committee System:
oSTEM at UH utilizes a committee system, which consists of 4 committees: Student Development, Fundraising, Marketing, and Volunteering and Socials. The description of each committee is shown in the figure! All members have an opportunity to join any committees of their choosing (pending room and approval).
