The Osprey Environmental Leadership Clubs are student-led organizations designed to empower young leaders to take action on environmental issues within their schools and communities. Sponsored by the University of North Florida’s Institute of Environmental Research and Education (IERE), these clubs serve as a bridge between high school students and UNF’s environmental programs, fostering leadership, education, and sustainability.
Purpose & Mission
OELCs aim to cultivate environmental stewardship and leadership skills among students. Each club provides opportunities for members to:
Engage in hands-on environmental projects with local community leaders and partner organizations.
Explore themes like Nature & Health, Coastal Resilience & Water, and Conservation & Resources.
Connect with UNF faculty and experts through guest lectures and mentorship.
Participate in leadership workshops and sustainability initiatives that prepare students for future academic and career paths in environmental science.
Benefits for Members
Priority consideration for UNF’s Youth Environmental Leadership Program (YELP).
Access to exclusive events, including environmental summits, guided hikes, and campus sustainability tours.
Opportunities for networking, skill-building, and community engagement.
Support from IERE through resources like branded club materials, social media guidance, and sponsorship for activities.
Structure & Support
Each OELC chapter is student-driven with a teacher sponsor and receives guidance from IERE. Clubs are encouraged to create their own identity while aligning with the overarching mission of promoting environmental awareness and leadership. IERE helps amplify their impact and connect chapters across schools through t-shirts, resources, and marketing support and spotlighting student leaders in our community!
Don’t just dream about a greener future—help make it a reality! Join or start an OELC and discover how leadership, teamwork, and environmental action can transform your school and community.
