Remote sensing

In this project, I wanted to create a fire mask that is able to follow the spreading of boreal wildfires. The 2018 fire in the Ljusdal region, Sweden was a perfect study case for the project. I had to use 54 Sentinel-3 images (from Copernicus Open Access Hub) to generate the results, two images (day and night) every day between 14.07.2018. and 09.08.2018. (this is the duration of the fire).

The analysis was done in SNAP, after some pre-processing steps I used the two fire bands (TIR and MIR) with boreal-specific thresholds to find the real fire pixels. On this map, you can see the spreading of the fire in the first week of its duration. The visualization was created in QGIS 3.28.10.
